Description:
General Specs: Paul Jaeger Mauser, Year 1960's+-, 30-06, 6lb 15oz, LOP 13 9/16"
Serial Number: 1160

Those gunners interested fine sporting rifles know Paul Jaeger Custom rifles.  Paul Jaeger was an American born, German trained gunsmith that opened a shop in Jenkintown, PA just after WWII and built custom guns there until his retirement in 1977.  Jaeger was known for building accurate rifles with fine finishes and custom touches in classic American style.  Jaeger was also an inventor, and one of his most notable creations was his side-mounted, detachable scope mount that allows easy removal of the scope and mount for travel or cleaning of the rifle and always being dead on when re-mounted.  This fine rifle, sn1160, is one of Jaeger’s high-grade custom rifles, built on a standard size, large ring, commercial Mauser 98 action in the versatile .30-06 caliber.  This is a rifle that has a nicely figured English walnut stock with well-defined honey and black streaks and perfect layout to make for a strong foundation for an accurate rifle.  The stock is gorgeous with a raised cheek piece and shadow line, and nicely executed multi-point checkering that shows no wear from use.  The full pistol grip terminates with a deeply chiseled, oak leaf engraved steel grip cap, and the butt terminates in the well-known Niedner checkered steel buttplate.  The famous Mauser 98 action has cock on opening, controlled round feed and the bolt handle is nicely checkered for positive purchase.  The floor plate and trigger guard are fully engraved by the famous Claus Willig, with deeply chiseled oak leaf motif, gold wire inlays, and centered on the floor plate is a vignette showing a large, gold inlay of an angry bear.    Even the screws are engraved to match.  The Paul Jaeger adjustable trigger is known to be amongst the best and breaks cleanly at 2.7lbs. The 22” barrel has a featherweight contour, banded front sight, and the rifle weighs 6lbs. 15oz. without the scope mount.  The rifling is sharp as new, and the bore is flat out mint with no signs of use.  This rifle is in original condition (we purchased this rifle from the original owner’s family; the gentleman lived a few miles from the Jaeger shop and bought the gun new and in person) and all the metal shows 99%, with only a few light handling marks on the wood.  The Jaeger patented detachable mount removes without tools in seconds with zero change to point of impact.  The detachable floor plate is manipulated without tools to dump the ammo, a very safe way to empty the rifle of ammunition when required.  This is a very affordable custom rifle created by a world-renowned rifle maker, engraved by a world-class engraver, in a most desirable caliber built on the venerable Mauser 98 action…and it is gorgeous!  The cost to build a rifle like this in today’s gun world would easily be twice our price and take over a year to get into your hands.  Another nice touch…a Bucheimer heavy leather rifle case, sheepskin lined, and a fully intact leather scope case made for the gun and scope and purchased at the same time as the rifle.   Don’t let this one get away, and thanks for looking!
