It is well known that the Fox gun mechanism is reliable with the locking mechanism simple and efficient, the barrels and action made of the finest steel of its time, the wood finely fitted to the action, checkering well cut, and the handling dynamics of the gun superb. With so many of them out there, how do you know which one to buy? At Vintage Firearms, Inc. (VFI) we inspect each gun before purchase, our 4 gunsmiths clean and service each gun as needed, and on most guns, we strip the actions to the smallest parts, Ultrasonic clean and scrub all parts to shiny metal, inspect all parts for integrity and function, make any replacements or repairs necessary, lubricate and reassemble. This is a $275 service included with the gun. VFI CERTIFIED GUNS have a 90-day mechanical warranty providing confidence you are buying a fine shotgun that will provide years of service in the field. Just remember, nowhere is it more apparent than in the gun world…you get what you pay for!

This Fox A grade SN 1574 retains all factory original finishes and parts.  Its butt stock has an elegant round knob with well executed checkering complimenting the nicely figured European walnut and is fitted with a genuine Silvers pad.  The gun has modern shooting dimensions, the rib matting and barrels stampings are sharp, barrels tight on the hinge pin and breech face with the top lever right of center, shows perfect screws and mechanics, and has excellent wood to metal fit and bores. Everything is in great condition for a first year, four-digit Fox gun.  Being an early production gun Mr. Fox would have personally inspected and approved this gun before it left his factory.  We have respected his famous attention to detail and quality by passing this A grade through our VFI Certification process as described above. In addition, VFI has lengthened the chambers to 2 ¾” and extended the forcing cone tapers to 1 ½”, a $360 value. Modern chambers and long forcing cones makes for safe shooting of modern, readily available ammunition with softer recoil and better patterns, which benefit the shooter and preserve the integrity of these fine older doubleguns.  The 30" barrels, choked IC/M, are #1 weight Krupp steel with a reinforced forend lug for heavy loads. The barrels have no pitting, the receiver has notable case color under its pleasing patina and bears the early style English scroll engraving, still clear and sharp.  The trigger guard likewise matches the action. Just a righteous gun (and what a great gun) to take afield or to the club with your buddies to break some clays this season. If you cherish original, honest, and collectible guns, this one is for you.
