FRENCH MODEL 1866 OR M1866 CHASSEPOT RIFLE SABER BAYONET & SCABBARD. 27 3/4" overall with 22 1/2" fullered blade. "S" and "M" round proofs at ricasso with hand engraved "Manu. Di Armas de Chatellerault Janvier 1874" on back of blade. Last year for the 1866 bayonet. Tight fit to brass hilt with same "S' and "M" as well as three digit serial number in lug slot. Good tension on catch spring. Old patina on brass and never cleaned. Original steel scabbard with nice tight fit so does not rattle around and perfect fit.
