Remington Arms 03-A3 in collector condition. Clean bore low round count. Bayonet included true to match on this rifle. This is a true piece of history. It‚‚s rare to see one in this condition. Please give it a good look. This Rem. O3A3 is dated 1943 on top of barrel. I do not recall the month. M1 bayonet dated 1943 at base of blade, as I recall. Barrel is 24-inches in length, as I recall. All of original proof marks are on the stock. That includes the P and the initials of the Army inspecting officer at the Remington factory. As I recall there is a marking on the small of the stock near the trigger for the US Army Ogdon, Utah arsenal where many O3A3s were sent for post war inspection and rebuilt. Just because the gun went through the process does not mean anything but routine inspection was done. Interior and exterior inspections, head space and similar services were performed routinely on each and every rifle. There are some odd inspection marks at the bottom of the floor plate in the wood that none of the collector experts can actually figure out. No written word found at either the factory or reconditioning faculty document why they are present or any sort of meaning. If the 03A3s looked pretty bad or had say bad bores they were set aside for further inspection and put in a line for the full reconditioning. On the other hand, rifles like this one were inspected and regreased and wrapped in brown waxed heavy paper and put in one form of long term storage or another. This might be crated or some sort of air tight packaging or container similar to: M1s, M1 carbines and 1911s plus thing like M3s and Thompsons. The Parkerizing on this rifle looks like it may be original. The grease would turn the normally blackish gray original park into a green in time. Sights, butt plate pattern and hardware all seem original. Fully reconditioned rifles usually had the scant stock, according to several sources. There are some Remington markings on a few parts of note. Usually, the letter R is found on certain parts such as the bolt handle. This one has that and I recall seeing one or more parts with the same on them. Reconditioned guns could have new parts with all sorts of markings or none at all. My first 03A3 in the summer of 1963 was pretty much like this one except it had the Scant stock suggesting it had gone through the whole process of reconditioning.
