Description:
This is an excellent Confederate-inspected Kerr's Patent Revolver in .44 caliber, serial number 2261. Overall condition is Fine.

Kerr's Patent Revolver was a 5-shot single-action percussion revolver manufactured from 1859 to 1866 by the London Armoury Company, imported by the Confedracy, and used by Confederate cavalry during the Civil War.   Approximately 7,500 were imported by the South. The revolver was made in both .36 and .44 calibers; the Confederacy only purchased .44 caliber revolvers.  The existing supply of Enfield rifles and Kerr revolvers bearing this mark certifies that all arms having this stamp were Confederate purchased weapons. These revolvers were issued to Confederate cavalry, including the 7th, 11th, 12th, 18th and 35th Virginia, as well as the 24th Georgia and 8th Texas.

CONDITION: This revolver has a 5 5/8” octagon barrel and London proof marks. The lock plate and left frame are marked "London Armoury".  The serial number (2261) is located on the cylinder and the bottom right side of the frame under the cylinder next to the "Kerr's Patent" marking.  The diamond checkered one-piece grips are in excellent condition, with a clear "JS/Anchor" stamp/cartouche below the frame tang, making certain this was a Confederate revolver. The barrel and loading lever retain about 35% original blue. Side hammer lock and and frame retain some traces of blue with smooth plum patina.  Mechanics are good as is the bore.  All markings are crisp. The swivel ring is perfectly intact.  This is an excellent example of an important Confederate cavalry revolver.
