Description:
HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON Auto-Ejecting TOP BREAK .32 Caliber DA Revolver C&R

Early 20th Century CONCEAL & CARRY Revolver

Here we present a C&R Harrington & Richardson Third Variation Auto Ejecting Double Action Top Break Revolver, made circa 1913-1915 in Worcester, Massachusetts. In 1875 Gilbert Harrington and former Frank Wesson employee, William Augustus Richardson, formed the new Harrington & Richardson Company. In 1888 the firm was incorporated as The Harrington & Richardson Arms Company. Their original capital investment was $75,000. Harrington was president, Richardson was treasurer, and George F. Brooks was secretary. This revolver was designed to be small and concealable for self-defense. It is chambered for 6 shots of .32 S&W, making it a small, concealable and effective self-defense revolver. The “jazz age” was filled with gangsters and career thugs. Here we have a great example of a self-defense revolver that would have helped fend off those criminals!
This little six-shot revolver came with an auto-ejecting mechanism, hard rubber grips, a nickel finish, and barrel lengths of 2-1/2, 3-1/4 (standard), and 4, 5, & 6 inch barrels available. The top of the barrel markings includes the company name and address, and the early production guns also included the patent dates. On the Third Models, as is this example, the left side of the barrel is marked “AUTO EJECTING .32 S&W CTGE” and was manufactured for smokeless powder.

The first variation (1905-1908) had four patent dates, the model name, and caliber on the left side of the barrel. The second variation (1909-1912) had two patent dates, the model name, and caliber on the left side of the barrel. The third variation (1913-1915) had no patent dates and the name of the state is marked MASS. The fourth variation (1916-1924) the state of MASSACHUSETTS was spelled out. The fifth variation _1925-1941) had the new grip frame which is the same size as the rest of the frame with no step down for the grip panel. After 1931 this revolver was listed in the catalog as “H&R AUTOMATIC” No. 10 in .32 S&W Caliber with 6 shots and “H&R AUTOMATIC” No. 25 in .38 S&W Caliber with 5 shots.

The overall condition is fine. Original nickel finish. Strong, tight action. The bore is bright. Both grips are in good shape with less than expected wear. Sharp markings. Numbers match.
