Description:
Custom bespoke Purdey 12 gauge hammer gun, made in 1927 for J.F. Desmond with Greener cross bolt closure, third grip, clip sides.
Single trigger in rear position which will fire either barrel when the hammer is cocked, and when both hammers are cocked, it will fire the right barrel, then the left barrel. LOP 14 1/2 inches.
In the 1990s, a perfectly matched one inch wood extension was added to the exhibition grade stock by Harley, stockmaker at master gunsmith Ken Eversul's facility.
It is the only Purdey hammer gun ever made with a Greener cross bolt closure and a single trigger.
In 2009, it was noted by David Maynard, president of Purdey, that THIS WAS THE LAST HAMMER GUN THAT PURDEY MADE.
From J.F. Desmond ownership went to W.F. Franklin, who was then president of Winchester. Franklin changed the name on the gun case to his.
Through the years, this gun has been owned and shot competitively by such shotgun masters including Cyril Adams, Richard A. Snipes, and Ken Eversul, who called this gun, "THE GREATEST PIGEON GUN IN THE WORLD".
This perfecly functioning, incredibly handling shotgun is excellent in the Pigeon / Helice Ring and the Trap Field.
