Antique Belgian HENRI PIEPER Child Size Half Stock .22 Cal PERCUSSION Rifle
With “J. GOLCHER” Marked ENGRAVED LOCK
Here we present a Henri Pieper Child Size Half Stock Percussion Rifle, made circa the late 1860s in Liege, Belgium. Henri Pieper was a German born gunmaker in Belgium. He began in Liege in 1866 under the business name “Anciens Etablissements Pieper”. The rapid growth of his early business was party due to an excellent decision to purchase a barrel factory in Nessonvaux. Some of Remington’s finest double shotguns of the time have the maker’s mark of “HP” on them from this factory.
This rifle would have made a very nice target or small game rifle for a young boy learning how to hunt. Its bore is a small .22 caliber. The overall length is short, making a relatively light and handy rifle. The barrel is octagonal with a turned down section at the muzzle.
The overall condition is good. Original Patina. Strong action with nice set triggers. The bore is in good shape for its age. Solid stock. “J. GOLCHER” marked lock. The left barrel flat is Liege proofed and the top flat is marked “H. PIEPER”.
