The silver has a pleasant purple-gray tarnish, with a bright bluish patina around the edges, and mild handling marks and surface wear visible. The silk suspension ribbon is in excellent condition with five clasps: "BELFAST / DIAMOND HILL / JOHANNESBURG / PAARDEBERG / RELIEF OF KIMBERLY". A small cigarette card depicting an officer of the Scots Greys in full dress uniform is also included. James Gregor, of Perth, Scotland, was 19 years old when he enlisted in the 2nd Dragoons (Royal Scots Greys) on February 11, 1896.
