Early 18th Century POCKET or BELT Pistol
Here we present an antique All-Metal Segalas Box Lock Double Barrel Flintlock Pistol, made circa the early 1700s. Israel Segalas was a French Huguenot & gunmaker who migrated to England in the late 17th century and was a well-known and active gunmaker in London in the early 18th century. Seeing as this one does not bear any British proofs, it would seem that this pistol was made prior to his emigration.
This little self-defense pistol would have been most at home in the pocket or on the belt of anyone in the busy cities of London or Paris during the early 1700s. While most pistols of the day offered only one shot, this pistol gave the shooter double the firepower, with two shots of .31 caliber ball, which was quite significant, especially in that day.
The overall condition is good. Strong actions. The left action has a half-cock notch while the right does not. The right barrel has a brazed repair. Good smooth bores that show age. Lightly engraved all metal frame and grip.
