Description:
SOLD. Starr Revolver.  This is a Starr Arms Company Model 1858 Double Action Army Revolver SN #8455.  It is a 6-shot, .44 caliber firearm.  23,000 double action revolvers were produced by Starr in .44 caliber with the vast majority being sold to the U.S. Gov’t.  This is one of those.  It differed radically from the other revolvers in its class by being double actioned. The large, curved trigger cocked the hammer and revolved the cylinder, and, at the end of travel, tripped the trigger at the back of the trigger guard, firing the revolver.  The double actions would have been issued primarily to the cavalry.

Ironically, despite being ahead of its time, the Starr Model 1858 Double Action Revolver was superseded by the Model 1863 Single Action Revolver

The overall condition is good with moderate pitting overall. Original patina. Strong action. The grip is well-used with bumps and dings. The left side of the grip contains the remnant of a cartouche. Legible markings. Numbers match.
