Description:
#4978 Colt S/A, 7-1/2”x45COLT, 172XXX(1897). The bore is about VG+ (7+ on a scale of 10), and with a good cleaning it will clean to at least an 8 to 8+. It has a good action and a tight lock-up. The metal is very crisp with only some light pitting on the left side by the grip junction and no pitting anywhere else. The two piece wood grips appear to be decent replacements, fitting pretty well, but not being age correct for this late 1890s Thumb-Buster. It also has had the cylinder pin plunger release replaced with a fixed screw that requires the screw to be screwed out partways to release the axle pin. Suffice to say this old cannon has had some “upgrading” over the years, and while not a high-end piece, it IS, after all a very handsome antique long barreled Colt Single Action and a good value.
