Description:
Here we have an extremely handsome all-original Belgian FN Browning Auto 5 semi-auto shotgun chambered in 16 gauge manufactured in 1952.  This standard-weight 16 gauge Auto 5 is in amazing condition inside and out, and features a 30" solid-rib barrel choked "Full".  The gun is in excellent condition overall with the original factory gloss blue finish still bright and shiny and with only a few minor deductions keeping it from being minty.  These deductions consist of some minor handling/use marks and some scattered pinprick-like speckling in spots on the gun, originally caused by some extremely minor dusty surface rust that was removed previously.  The worst of these spots is located on the top strap of the wrist, with the remainder much less visible and located on the lower wrist tang and in a small area on the right side of the receiver above the trigger but below the engraving.  The handling marks on this Browning consist of 5 of the 12 screws in the receiver having a tiny bit of marring from being tightened carelessly.  The remaining screw heads are in like-new condition with perfect slots.  As you can see from the pictures, these deductions detract VERY LITTLE from the exceptionally clean and beautiful overall look of this gun.  There is nothing that stands out as bad when handling it, you have to look VERY closely to see any deductions.  All of the factory markings are clean and sharp, and the factory polished in-the-white bright bolt and shell lifter are still mirror-bright and free from any stains or pitting.  The receiver shows no finish wear on the lower edges from being carried in the normal spot, nor does the trigger or triggerguard show any finish wear whatsoever.  The exterior factory gloss blue finish of the barrel and the forearm cap are both in superb condition.  The bore in the "Full" choked 30" inch (29.5") barrel is mirror-bright and perfect, free from any pitting, dents, bulges, or damage of any kind.  The very handsome solid rib is also in superb shape, perfectly attached to the barrel with a seamless tight joint and free from any dents or damage.  The original factory stock set on this 1952 Auto 5 is in excellent condition, and is a very handsome dark red-brown in color.  Both the forearm and buttstock are free from any cracks or repairs, and the original checkering on both pieces is still crisp and clean without any visible damage.  The only deductions from the stock set come from a few tiny places where the original clearcoat is flaking where the wrist meets the receiver, and a few tiny scattered dings/dents in the wood that can only be found with a close inspection.  The original factory FN/Browning buttplate is still in-place on the buttstock, and it is in excellent condition with no cracks, repairs, beetle damage, or chips.  As mentioned earlier, this Browning is just as clean on the inside as it is on the exterior.  The internals are all in like-new condition with no visible wear whatsoever.  With the bolt locked back you can see how the interior of the receiver is essentially spotless and the face of the bolt is pristine.  It would not surprise us at all if this gun has had less than a box of shells fired thru it since leaving the factory 70 years ago.  The action is slick and stout; when the bolt is released it slams into battery perfectly with the barrel.  All of the controls are in perfect working order, including the safety and magazine cut-off.  There is no question that it has had a VERY easy life, and if not for some less than ideal storage conditions at some point along the way it would be a mint gun today.  If you have been looking for a 16 gauge Belgian Browning Auto 5 for your collection that will work as both a shooter and good long-term investment, this 1952-production gun would be a superb choice.  Priced much less than a Sweet-16 in similar condition, this standard-weight 16 gauge Auto 5 could be carried with a great deal of pride into any hunting camp/club in the world.  They dont get much nicer than this, and finding a better one with a 30" inch barrel and the super-desirable solid rib like this one would be extremely difficult.
