Description:

Alexander Henry was a famous Scottish gunsmith. He was the originator of Henry rifling used on the British Martini-Henry rifles in 1871. Many of his finest sporting arms were used on hunting trips in India and Africa by Winston Churchill's paternal grandfather and Prince Edward. Edward also gave some of these fine rifles to officials in India when he visited there. The rifle has scroll engraving on the locks, frame, trigger guard, break lever and forearm hardware. Each lock is marked "ALEXR HENRY LTD". The top of the barrel rib is marked "ALEXR HENRY LTD MAKERS TO HER MAJESTY./EDINBURGH & LONDON". There are various British proofmarks on the barrel flats. On the water table is Birmingham nitro proofmarks and "6938". Matching serial number is also found on the lower tang and the inside of the forearm hardware. Sights include ramped beaded blade front sight and three leaf rear sight. Barrel retains most all of a refinish blue with a few scattered minor dings. The locks retain a good amount of case color. Wood is very good with crisp checkering. Mechanics are excellent. LOP is 14 inches. DAC is 2 inches and DAH is 2-7/8 inches. 26 inch tapered round barrels chambered in 375 Nitro Express caliber with excellent bores. The case is leather covered with brass corners and has the Alexander Henry label on the inside of the lid. Case is well worn with handle and some of the leather strap missing. Lining is also worn.
