ORIGINAL HARPERS FERRY U.S. MODEL 1803 FLINTLOCK RIFLE DATED 1819. 53” overall with 36” part octagon, part round .58 cal. barrel with Harpers Ferry proofs stamped at the left side of the breech. Original front sight and rear sight slot with old nicely done filler. Lock plate stamped “HARPERS/FERRY/1819” behind the hammer and the Federal Eagle with U.S. Shield in front of the hammer. Walnut stock with “V/AI” Ordnance Inspector’s stamp on side panel as well as the sub-inspector’s cartouche both. Brass patchbox and mounts. Original cartouche. Excellent overall as a well done professional reconversion which is very hard to tell from original. Beautiful deep original patina on metal and the original stock finish with nice old handling patina. Very crisp markings and proof stamps. All screws in fine condition and beautiful brass with deep patina. Bore with faint traces of rifling and lock in p erfect working order. Very nice looking example at a reasonable price.
