A Confederate Civil War Ames Imported Bleckman Model 1860 Cavalry Sword Dated 1861 Identified To "Private Francis Asbury Kirby, Of The 5th, 6th, & 11th Virginia Cavalries" In Nice Untouched Condition. All original and complete. The sword has a nice blade throughout with an untouched patina on it. It is dated 1861 on the ricasso which is the only mark that was put on an Ames Imported Bleckman Sword. The brass pommel has the name "F. A. Kirby" nicely inscribed in it. This is the only cavalry soldier with this name in the entire civil war database. The brass pommel and guard are both fine and untouched with a wonderful mellow color to them. The leather grip and wire are also original to the sword and are very nice throughout. The original scabbard is nice and very untouched with no dents in it.
Private Kirby has wonderful civil war history and was in the 5th, 6th, and 11th Virginia Cavalries from 3/8/1862 - to the end of the war. All three regiments were in "The Army Of Northern Virginia" and were heavily engaged in most of the major battles during the war including, Brandy Station, Gettysburg, Wilderness, etc. The total skirmishes are in the hundreds. He was shot in his trunk and wounded on 10/8/1864 at "Tom's Brook, VA." He was promoted to 5th Sergeant On 12/15/1863. On 6/17/1865 he gave his "oath Of Allegiance"
This Is A Very Historic And very Untouched Example Of An All Original Confederate Identified 1861 Dated Ames imported Bleckman Model 1860 Cavalry Sword That War Definitely In Virginia For The Duration of The War. This Sword Is fresh Out Of A 50 Year Old Collection That Was Just Discovered!
