Infantry" In A Shield On The Top Mount Of The Scabbard In Very Nice Condition. All original and complete. The sword has a nice blade with all of the etching of military motifs being clear on it. It has a light patina on it. The brass guard and pommel are both nice and untouched with a darkening mellow color to them. There is a U.S. Shield & Stars engraved at the top of the pommel cap. The top of the guard is finely engraved with his name in script, "J.M. Crawford". The leather scabbard is fine throughout with fully engraved brass fittings. The top mount has a large shield with the following inscription finely done in script inside it, "PRESENTED TO LIEUT. J.M. CRAWFORD BY THE NON COMMISSIONED OFFICERS & PRIVATES OF COMP. I, 93rd REGT. N.Y.V." All of the brass fittings also have a nice even mellow color to them. Lieut. Crawford enlisted on 11/7/1861 and was dischrged on 4/15/1861. The regiment was fairly quiet during this time and through june of 1862. Lt. Crawford was commissioned into the field and staff again on 2/15/1864 and remained in until 6/6 1865. He was promoted To Chaplain On 2/15/1864. During this time the regiment saw heavy action in many battles including, "Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House, Cold Harbor, Petersburg VA, Deep Bottom run, Boydton Plank Road, and many more.
