We were especially picky when considering a bolt-action addition to our Turnbull Finished series. While we proudly outfit the line with quintessentially American brands, we’re pleased to report that our choice – the CZ 457 Lux – already has a solid reputation among discerning shooters here in the States. The 457’s quality, features, ergonomics and accuracy make this .22 exceptionally well-suited to American tastes.
Action
The 457’s receiver is color case hardened using our restoration-grade, bone charcoal method. Our signature process imparts a range of blues and blondes rarely seen on modern firearms, a spectrum simply not achievable through other means of case hardening. The receiver’s slotted design provides shorter bolt travel and a smaller footprint compared to its Model 455 predecessor. It’s been slab-sided as well to further reduce weight. The 457’s designers also changed the bolt throw from 90 to 60 degrees, reducing the risk of interfering with optics should you choose that option over the rifle’s factory iron sights. Like its predecessor, the 457 boasts a user-interchangeable barrel system.
Those familiar with the 455 will also be happy to know that the 457 sports a trigger mechanism that is fully adjustable for weight, pre-travel and over-travel. And perhaps the most anticipated improvement is the 457’s American-style, push-to-fire safety.
Wood
The elegant lines of the CZ 457 Lux are enhanced by its premium oiled Turkish walnut, sanded and finished by master craftsmen. Typically referred to as “hogback” in style, American shooters will consider the stock to be more in the Monte Carlo tradition with raised comb and cheekpiece, promoting proper head positioning for iron sight usage.
