Description:
Here's an old War Horse. A left hand Mathieu rifle which I believe may be an original gun marketed by Fajen in the early sixties.
While the stock has a somewhat muted profile of a vintage Mark V, this is not a LH Weatherby rifle as the serial number doesn't match
the number sequence used by Weatherby to designate their LH Mathieu actioned guns.
In the early 1960's the Fajen gunstock folks briefly marketed a left handed rifle using the Mathieu action. If memory serves. it was in
the 1960-1963 timeframe.
The rifle looks to be well used but also well maintained. I had the original shot out barrel replaced w/Douglas air gauged 300 H&H barrel, then
later with another Douglas barrel in 340Wby. The bores in both barrels are excellent. The 300 H&H barrel has 18 rounds thru it. The 340 between
50 &60 rounds. Also a KDF brake was installed. The rifle also has the original Jaeger trigger. The bottom metal/magazine box & follower were
borrowed from the '03 Springfield.
The action is strong with a large Sako type extractor (see pics). The Leupold scope (Vari-X II 3-9) is included.
Frank de Haas included an informative article about the Mathieu action in his book "Bolt Action Rifles". It's a must read for anyone interested in
the LH Mathieu action.
