Description: SOLD.... Excellent Smith & Wesson Double Action Frontier Model in 44-40 with 5“ barrel. This is a great looking Smith & Wesson Frontier model. This model is in it's own serial number range and in the sought after 44-40 caliber.. It has the bit more rare 5” barrel. S/N is 3113 and all matching on the barrel, barrel latch, cylinder and frame of course.. This Frontier model was made from 1886 to 1913 S/N range from 1 to 15,341 so this gun was made very early in 1886.. This gun retains most of it's original nickle finish.. The barrel has 95% and just a couple very small spots were the nickle has flaked off the left side as you can see.. The barrel also has some small minor dings on the left side in front of the cylinder as well.. No other dings on the gun.. The cylinder has about 95% nickle finish as well with just very small specks were it has flaked off.. The frame has 98% finish including the front and rear grip straps with no flaking. Over all nickle finish is slightly clouding but could shine right back with a little polishing but I am not touching it.. Never cleaned on or messed with.. No rust or pitting.. The trigger guard blue has worn to a medium gray with just traces of blue in the protected areas. Just traces of case colors on the hammer. The blue on the barrel latch has faded to a nice blue brown patina. The mechanics are excellent.. Crisp and tight as a new gun in DA and SA.. Locks up tight with absolutely no cylinder movement when cocked for the single action and when the double action trigger is pulled.. No front to rear cylinder movement or side to side wobble.. This gun is as tight as the day it was made. Rock solid barrel to frame fit at the latch and the hinge.. The grips are fine with no cracks or chips.. No number inside but are no doubt original with a snap on factory fit.. They show some wear to the checkering and have turned to a brown color from sun light fading. I forgot to tighten the grip screw after checking for the number and in one photo showing from the rear you can see the grip screw head sticking out.. It fits perfect when snugged up.. The markings are excellent. Untouched full front sight never filed on or messed with. The bore is very good showing very strong rifling with mild black powder roughness.. No bad spots or craters.. No rings or bulges.. Should shoot great with the proper black powder loads.. The cylinder chambers are excellent and bright.. All the screw heads are very clean and not burred up from tinkering.. This is a very early Frontier model with most all of it's original nickle finish.. Hard to find these early large frame western revolvers with this much finish at a reasonable price. The 5” barrel is not as common as the loner 6 1/2” ones you will usually find. Just a real nice Smith & Wesson for the collector that wants lots of finish.. $35 insured shipping..
