When I purchased this Winchester back in 1961 we were in a severe Recession. I was working for Pinkerton's Security when I came upon this specimen on display at WARNER's Hardware/Sporting Goods at 7th St. in downtown Minneapolis,MN. This stellar '73 Winchester caught my eye..it was on 'consignment via a Sioux native that had a relative that performed in Buffalo Bills Wild West Show(s). I have NO way of proving how I came upon it 60+ yrs. ago. Kindly, consider, this a is was built as a "Show Gun"- Nickel plated Winchester having a 24in. 38Cal(38-40) having a very decent shootable bore. This is an unusual Winchester in that it is one of VERY FEW Nickel plated 'Winchesters"..! Whether or not you accept how I came to owning this matters NOT to me, as I presently am the Proud owner. In the photo's you'll see a photo ( Artwok) of Buffalo Bill Cody holding a Nickel plated are authentic '73 Winchester Rifle. It appears this is the original plating as the lettering has NOT been bufffed away..nor thin. I have no clue as to the shotgun Buttplate..perhaps for easier shouldering while mounted on horseback & for comfort..?? There are feint animal scenes depicting a hunt w/dog..most likely for Bear..perhaps even Bison..?? outlined in the buttstock..The former consignor/seller related to me that after it was sold by Wild West Shows to Native Ogllala.from the PINE RIDGE Res.-Pine Ridge,S.D..the Pin pricks on frame depict kills.of game & 2 men..! The serial #104133A shows this rifle was mfg.d 1882 which fits the period of the Wild West Shows-nationwide as well as UK and Europe. This is sold "As-IS" where is NO warranty expressed nor Implied..This rifle operates smoothly as designed & manufactured. I believe my listed price is quite reasonable & non-negotiable. I doubt you'll ever find another like this Gem... The photo shown is part of my Buffalo Bill Display & library and not included in this listing .
