Description:
***   SOLD  ***   Great John Dickson & Son 12 bore rotary underlever hammergun. Dickson no. 2648 was made in 1867 and is still going strong today! Its nitro Damascus barrels are some of most highly figured barrels I have ever come across! And the wood on this gun is also very well figured. It has nice engraving, extractors and non-rebounding low hammers that sit nearly below the shooters line of sight when cocked. Tight on face. It weighs 6lb 10oz.   ***   The 29-5/8” Damascus barrels have 2-1/2” chambers and are topped by a raised solid concave gamestyle rib. The bores are shiny and were nitro re-proofed in Birmingham. The rib is inscribed “John Dickson & Son 63 Princes Street Edinburgh”. The right barrel is bored 0.729 with a constriction of 0.003 for Skeet choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.025. The left barrel is bored 0.733 and has a constriction of 0.002 for Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.023. Many shooters make the mistake of thinking that Cylinder choking dissipates too quickly. In fact, it produces one of the most consistent patterns available and in this era of shotcup wads it reaches out with an effective pattern much further than is commonly assumed.   ***   The straight grip stock and splinter forearm are believed to be original and are made of highly figured European walnut. The checkering does show some wear and the forearm shows 3-4 professionally done repairs. The forearm is secured by a wedge fastener. Stock dimensions are 14-1/4” to a steel heelplate by 1-1/2” by 2-1/4”. Cast off for the righthand shot.   ***   Handsome Dickson back action sidelock hammergun still in service today and waiting for a new owner to carry on the tradition. This is a nice handling double from Scotland’s premier maker perfect for today’s shooting. Time to step up.   ***  Please note that the photographs are part of the description. Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period, Returns at buyer’s expense.
