Description:
This offering is a beautiful Arisaka Type 99 manufactured in the mid WWII period when quality was still excellent and the Japanese had found some functional modifications to the Type 99 that made a lot of sense and reduced the cost. First the monopod was gone. It was kind of an apparatus that got hung up easily on foliage. The anti-air apparatus on the rear sight was designed away---aircraft were not moving at 120 knmots anymore. The dust cover that rattled a lot in the jungle and got pepple killed was removed but the slots were still machined into the receiver. What's left is a really beautiful rifle with a intact mum. It shoots well and puts you on paper at 50 yards. To zero it will take very little effort. This rifle has the strongest action to come out of WWII, far surpassing Mauser, Enfield, Springfield, Moisin, etc. The Army gave up on trying to blow it up and it took a private gunsmith (I think his name was Larson but don't bet on it.) to actually make the action unusable---he blew the barrel off! Now if you have ever rebarrelled a Type 99 you know that the area around the receiver is superb steel and is threaded heacily---overkill---so the explosive pressure must have been astronomical. There is ammo available and reloading  dies and equipment as well. If you are into reloading I will remain available to help you get going with that. I tend to load a little heavy (and I do mean "little") and get superb results. But watch your cases for stress. Weaver makes a scope mount for the Arisaka that requires drilling and tapping (use 8-40 screws, not 6-48) if you want to put a scope on it--or you can use the scout-type sight. This rifle will take down any game in North America. The standard balliustics are exactly the British .303 and very close to the NATO .308. If you load a little heavy you will exceed what these cartridges can do---but remember, chrome barrel and all, this rifle is 80 years old.
Whoever you are, I hope you really enjoy this beautiful rifle. It still carries some of the dings imposed by the U.S. Marines and is a true battle rifle.
