Description:
Serial #1657, .41 Swiss CF, 34 1/2" octagon barrel with an excellent, bright bore that is rifled for about 5" - 6" at the breech end, and unrifled for the remainder. The barrel has an overall plum-brown patina with mild surface freckling throughout. The frame has a mottled, pewter gray patina that has minor freckling, and a few spots of mild pinprick pitting. The right side is maker marked: “J.U. Banziger St. Gallen" (active from ca. 1848 - 1906). The European walnut buttstock and forend have been cleaned to fine condition, with a few minor dings and handling scattered throughout, underneath the finish. The buttstock has nicely figured grain, and has a flared Germanic-style left side cheekpiece. The Swiss butt has a mixed brown and pewter gray patina. The rifle is equipped with double set triggers, and there is a pass-through tunnel for a bore brush when the block is opened. This is a very interesting, and well-made example of a Swiss target rifle with a seldom seen partially rifled bore. FFL or C&R
