The 22"" round 45 Government (45-70) caliber barrel has a good bore with firing erosion. The barrel has the V over P over eagle inspection and proof marks with a P following and an A at the top. The lock plate has the U.S. over SPRINGFIELD with the eagle to the rear. The top of the butt plate tang is marked US. The rear sight is the correct C-marked Buffington carbine sight and the barrel band is grooved for the sight leaf. All the metal has approx. 85% blue with the remainder turning plum. The breechblock has approx. 70% fading case colors. The stock is very good with a strong circle P firing proof behind the trigger guard tang, the very small initials CB just forward of the firing proof, a strong SWP over 1887 inspection stamp on the left wrist, and the scattered dents and dings expected of a cavalry-issued weapon. The sling bar and ring are present. The action functions correctly. This nice looking Model 1884 trapdoor carbine would fit an Indian wars, post Civil War, or carbine collection. SOLD Antique: Yes |
