The 54 caliber, single shot, percussion, breechloading Starr was one of the better Union Civil War carbines. The 21"" round barrel has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling. The barrel retains approx. 95% blue. It is marked on the top STARR ARMS Co YONKERS, N.Y. It also has an H.G.S inspection stamp at the left breech. The lock is marked STARR ARMS Co over YONKERS, N.Y. The breech is marked STARR'S PATENT over SEPY. 14th 1858. The brass barrel band and butt plate are fine with a nice aged patina and sub-inspector stamps on each. The casehardened lock and frame show generous amounts of slightly faded colors. The butt stock is excellent with no cracks or chips and strong JM and BH cartouches. The forearm is excellent with no cracks or chips and very light wear. The action functions correctly. You will never need to upgrade this gun!
