Description:
CLASSIC 1873 .44-40 ROUND BARREL RIFLE, #269XXX, MADE 1888. This is a nice honest example that does not appear messed with or cleaned. The bore is surprisingly about excellent with sharp rifling all the way through and any corrosion or roughness is very minor and surface. The receiver is a mostly even very aged blue to brown with better blue on the loading gate and protected areas, original dust cover. Barrel and magazine tube mostly an uncleaned brown with original rear buckhorn sight with elevator bar intact and small blade front sight. Tight action, stock and forearm are fine and show normal light handling marks only with good wood to metal fit. Strong half cock notch on the hammer and brass lifter is marked with the correct caliber. On the receiver ring on top of the action is lightly stamped "1000" with meaning unknown. Comes with a Cody Museum call-in sheet verifying caliber, barrel etc. an showing received in the warehouse and shipping dates in 1888. An attractive, unmessed with 134 year old Winchester in a great caliber and fine bore.
