Description:
From a mid-west sale, a beautiful antique percussion Rifle/Shotgun over under combination gun with patch box. The 30" barrels are 44/45 caliber rifle over a 16 gauge smooth bore shotgun. Both barrels appear to have good bores and the rifle barrel is topped with an adjustable rear and a blade front sight (see photos). The walnut wood stock is in good condition with no chips or cracks but has several dents and dings from over 100 years use. The stock has a German Silver crescent butt plate and a German Silver patch box (see photos). LOP 13 1/4" to the front trigger. One set of double set triggers work both hammers independently. The lock has a strong spring for both hammers and functions as it should. The back action lock plate is stamped T.W. Barnes. At the sale they said Thomas Washington Barnes was Born 1840 at Oakville, Ontario, Canada died Aug. 28, 1909 at Vassar, Mich. Set up shop at Vassar, fall of 1865 and Made percussion over-under rifle-shotguns with side hammers, marked "T. W. BARNES" on lockplate (some un marked). Inlays of German silver or other white metal; patch boxes open downward. The metal has a very nice brown patina with some spotting on the barrels(see photos). The gun has Silver fittings and a brass trigger guard (see photos). The hickory wood ram rod is plain and has no tips (see photos).
