The P229 DAK is the standard duty pistol for no less than the U.S. Coast Guard, and is carried by numerous federal agencies and law enforcement agencies across the country including U.S. Federal Air Marshals, The Secret Service guarding the President of The United States and U.S. Diplomatic Security Service (U.S. Department of State) using .357 Sig caliber pistols. The Double Action Kellerman, or DAK system trigger when pulled, the company’s specs advise that you get a full-time and constant trigger squeeze and two reset points, one short, and one full-length. This allows the shooter to grow accustomed to the same 6.5-pound trigger squeeze each time.

Recessed no-snag hammer is out of the way yet visable. As for safeties, there is no safety switch located on the gun itself. Instead, there are different internal mechanisms, which guarantee the safety of the pistol. SIG calls this its safety system:
1-Firing pin block. The firing pin cannot move forward if the trigger is not being pressed. This is also called "Drop Safety"
2-Intercept notch. The reason the hammer is not touching the firing ping when it is down, if the trigger is not pressed the hammer cannot move all the way forward.
3-Trigger bar disconnect. While the slide is cycling, the trigger bar is disconnected from the sear to avoid an out-of-battery discharge.
