Description:
Winchester Pre-64 Model 70 in 222 Remington.  Converted by Griffin & Howe from 22 Hornet.  In the 1950's the 222 Remington became very popular.  At the time Winchester did not chamber this cartridge. G&H stepped in and converted many 22 Hornet Model 70's to 222.  The serial number shows that this rifle was produced in 1950.  I purchased it on consignment from the estate of the original New York City owner.  The rifle is remarkable because of it's "as new" condition.  Metal and wood are near, if not, 100%!  The stock checkering is as sharp as the day it was cut.  Only some small handling marks over the last 72 years. It has a period Unertl Condor 6x scope mounted on Buehler rings and base.  The scope and mount are about 85-90%.  Also included is the original rear sight (see Photo).  A rare and unique Model 70 that is remarkable because of its condition
