Most who pursue Classic American Double shotguns know that Lefever Arms Co. of Syracuse, N.Y. produced elegant shotguns.  The first of the prominent American doublegun manufacturers to close its doors (1914), Lefever produced relatively few fine doubles; in the range of 60.000 guns.  The Lefever G Grade guns are not the fancy, engraved guns from Lefever Arms, but they were not the lowest end of the scale either.  The DS was Lefever’s entry level gun, then came the H Grade, then the G Grade.  The G Grade had true Damascus Steel barrels instead of twist steel and they used a nicer grade of European walnut to stock the gun, with a finer checkering pattern to set it off from the lower grades.  Most of the lower grade guns from any maker tend to be worn beyond desirability.  Worse yet, they have been “fixed” and “restored” by basement tinkerers that relinquish the gun to a state of unworthiness for anyone who knows fine vintage American double shotguns.  This Lefever, serial number 61683 made in 1909, is one of the lucky ones.  It remains intact, with just light normal wear over its 113 years of service, with all original parts, original checkering, nicely figured uncut wood with a hard rubber buttplate, excellent bores, beautiful star pattern Damascus barrels with a minimum barrel wall thickness of 34 thousandths, a solid 90% vivid factory original case color, great screws, all in top mechanical condition.  The barrels are tight as new on the joint and breech face of the action.  This being a later G Grade, it has a nice application of scroll engraving on the lockplates and a more elaborate border scroll as well.  YOU RARELY SEE A G GRADE WITH THIS ENGRAVING AND IT INCREASES THE DESIRABILITY AND VALUE OF THIS GUN, AS DOES THE BEAUTIFUL STAR PATTERN DAMASCUS THAT SHOWS 95% OF ITS FACTORY PATTERN.  At Vintage Firearms, Inc. (VFI) we inspect each gun before purchase, our 4 gunsmiths clean and service each gun as needed, and on this gun, we stripped the action to the smallest part, Ultrasonic cleaned and scrubbed all parts to shiny metal, inspected all parts for integrity and function, lubricated and reassembled, providing you a VFI CERTIFIED GUN, a $275 service in our shop.  VFI CERTIFIED GUNS have a 90-day mechanical warranty providing confidence you are buying a fine shotgun that will provide years of service in the field.  NONE of the other sellers provide this service.  This is an affordable entry into the fine vintage shotgun market and is ready to be used afield and at the clays course for another 100 years.  Lefever made some beautiful shotguns, and this is one of them.  SEE BELOW FOR SPECIFICATIONS.  Thanks for looking!
