Payment Types Accepted: Bank to bank wire transfer (preferred), or bank cashier's check only Description: ***SOLD, shipped*** Excellent example of a very rare Winchester Model 70. Only 1226 458 Africans were ever made representing less than 1/4 of 1% total production! S/N 369*** with matching # bolt, correctly scribed on TOP of the jeweling. Made in 1956. 25" barrel with excellent bore. This rifle is in very fine condition overall, showing about 98% original finishes with only a few insignificant rubs and a ghost line from a previously mounted Lyman 48 WJS receiver sight. The stock is nicely colored with a bit of figure. All 458s had factory cross bolts of 3 different styles and all had recoil pads. This one has the desirable SINGLE cross bolt and solid red pad. The barrel wears a beautiful factory rust blued finish, as did most 458s, along with the unique underbarrel mounted front swivel, unlike any other caliber M70, which all had front swivels through the wood near the foreend tip. While not technically cataloged as SUPER Grades, these Africans are often referred to as such, and are virtually identical with exception of the front sight, which was usually a silver bead Lyman 37 FA as opposed to a Redfield 254 or 255 full length gold bead. All of the other standard Super Grade components are present and correct for this style. An original and worthy placeholder for most any complete 70 collection, and a difficult one to find! Expedited and fully insured shipping from Alaska to your FFL is an additional $100. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
