Antique KETLAND & Co. “MANSTOPPER” .54 Caliber Large Bore FLINTLOCK Pistol
Turn of the Century Officers / Self Defense Flintlock!
Here we present an antique William Ketland & Co. marked Flintlock Pistol, made circa the early 1800s in turn of the century England. Ketland & Co. operated in Birmingham, England, from the late 1700s and to the early 1800s to become one of the most prominent and active British makers of the day. John and Thomas Ketland were the sons of Thomas Ketland and grandsons of William Ketland, who had been making locks and guns for the colonies since the early 18th Century. The lock plate is marked “W. KETLAND & CO.” and the barrel is marked “LONDON”. The barrel, trigger, lock, barrel tang, hammer, frizzen, pan and spring are all iron with brass trim.
The overall condition is very good. Nice finish throughout. The action is excellent. The bore is smooth and patinated. The stock is solid. There is a repair to a crack that goes through the middle of the forestock.
