The original rifles were developed by the Beretta company in the late 1960s for the Italian Army. They were the equivalent to the M16A2 rifles, however they use a piston driven gas system and not the gas impingement system. With the interest in the Colt AR-15 rifles during the early 1970s, very few of these rifles were actually imported to the United States. The left side of the receiver is marked \"BERETTA-PATENTED-MADE IN ITALY/Mod. AR 70/.223\" and the right side is marked \" Mod. 70/SPORT\". This rifle features a two position, adjustable rear sight with a post front sight similar to the early AR-15s. The top of the receiver is fitted with a scope rail and it has a synthetic stock and forearm with a ribbed synthetic grip.
Rating Definition:
Excellent with 99% original matte black finish and some scattered light handling marks. The stock and grip set is also excellent with some small dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
