Basing his design off Hugo Borchardt’s seminal C93, Georg Luger successfully brought Borchardt’s work to practical and productive fruition. While finding buyers for the C93 seemed an exercise in futility, the new Luger Pistol found many countries eager to test it and even adopt it. There are many variations in this field of collecting, but relatively few major changes in overall design from beginning to end. The P.08 is the pistol carried by German troops during World War I and II and is perhaps the most associated with those events. It is one of the most iconic pistols in history. The front grip strap bears “B.22.R.10.3” suggesting it was issued to the Bavarian 22nd Infantry Regiment, 10th Battalion. The 22nd Bavarian Infantry Regiment was a unit of the Prussian/German Army. It was formed on October 11, 1866 and was headquartered in Kassel. The division was subordinated in peacetime to the XI Army Corps. In the Great War as the 22nd Infantry Division, it fought initially on the Western Front, including in the Battle of Liège. It was soon sent to the Eastern Front, where it remained until October 1917. After returning to the Western Front, it saw action in the 1918 German spring offensive, including the Second Battle of the Somme and the Second Battle of the Marne. The division was disbanded in 1919 during the demobilization of the German Army after World War I. The overall condition is good. Refinished. The action is excellent. The bore is worn, though still shootable. The numbers match throughout with the exception of the magazine base and side plate (unnumbered). Solid grips though also worn and chipped. A neat piece of history from WWI. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 4 inches. Caliber: 9x19mm Luger Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING.
