Description:
Serial #114728, 12 Ga. (2 3/4"), 30" barrels (choked Full and Modified) with fine, bright bores that have some trace freckling in the right tube about halfway down. This is a handsome, 1899-made gun whose Remington Steel barrels are undented, in very good shape, with 60-70% of the original blue remaining, and the balance faded to mild plum-brown and pewter gray. The engraved frame has a mostly pewter gray patina, but still retains about 30% of the original color case-hardening, mostly on the underside, and on protected areas. The checkered forend and round-knob pistol-grip buttstock are in very good-fine condition, with scattered minor handling marks and blemishes. The lock-up is tight, the barrels are on face, and the top lever rests slightly right of center. The stock has a 14" length of pull to the original buttplate and drops of 1 3/4" and 2 5/8" respectively. There is a very well done repair to the toe of the stock and buttplate. The action is fully functional, however one of the hammers is a modern replacement (the original broken hammer still accompanies the gun). This is a handsome Remington hammerless double, and should still provide good field service today. FFL or C&R
