Description:
Colt model 1860 army. This gun was put into service in 1862. Very nice military inspected .44 with 8" barrel. This has a unique story but as often happens with the death of the collector much dies with them. This gun came from a Florida based collector who indicated the gun had Southern history and specifically Florida provenance. In 30 plus years I've been saving history I see this often. The paperwork associated with the collection is misplaced by family or they just are not knowledgeable enough to understand the value to the paperwork. This gun still has all the inspector markings very clear along with the cartouche on the grips. Cylinder scene is visible. The interesting thing with this gun is when the southern soldier picked this up to use he couldn't stand the Northern maker address and carefully filed off the barrel address with Union ties.
It was done well and very long ago.
Just makes for a great piece of history with this gun. I was familiar with this gun and it's story, Its just unfortunate that the family lost the paperwork. It's a great old Civil War era gun that saw use well after that conflict ended.
Action is tight. Gun is a fine historical piece worthy of the best collections!
