Description:
Serial #158331, .44 WCF (.44-40), 20" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has a small amount of mild freckling within the grooves. This is a early, 1901 made carbine that has practically all of a professionally added blue finish remaining. The original factory markings and proofs are still clear and legible, and the edges are still fairly sharp. This carbine went back to the factory after 1905 and had the barrel proof added. It is under the blue so we assume the blue was added after although very nice and close to factory. It has a sporting type front sight mated to reproduction Carbine ladder rear sight. The walnut forend and the rare shotgun style buttstock have scattered small handling marks and blemishes under a professionally reapplied varnish, and there is a single short, with-the-grain crack on the right side of the wrist and a small bruise.dent on the left side of the forend. This is a rare gun being special ordered with the shotgun butt which was very unusal on a Carbine at this time. A Cody Sheet is included. C&R
