Description:
This is a very nice veteran bring-back Nazi occupation French MAB Model D pistol in 7.65 Long caliber.  This MAB Model D is in very good all-original condition, with the factory gloss blue finish still in beautiful condition.  Originally designed for the French Army, the MAB Model D was officially adopted in 1933 and was put into production at the Manufacture D'Armes At Bayonne factory where it remained in production until the German invasion of 1940.  Germany invaded France on May 10th, 1940 and swiftly took out the French Military, completing their conquest of France in just a little over a month.  With full German control over the country by June 25th they went to work getting French arms production back underway to further equip the German Military almost immediately.  The MAB Model D was put back into production under Nazi supervision as the MAB Kaliber 7.65.  There were about 50,000 Model D's made during the occupation with the serial range running from 47,000 to 97,000.  The early guns were marked with a WaA251 Waffenamt while the later guns were marked with the WaAD20 Waffenamt.  These German occupation guns were distributed to both French occupation troops as well as regular German Army troops that carried them all over the world wherever Germany was fighting battles.   This particular example is serial number 69507 and it carries the earlier WaA251 Waffenamt.  It is in very good condition overall and in perfect working order.  The original blue finish is still bright and handsome, showing only some minor wear marks and handling marks common on a military issued and combat-used handgun.  The only deduction not from normal wear is there is a U.S. soldiers name lightly scratched into the top of the slide, slightly to the left of the top.  This is only visible under close inspection under the right light and at the right angle.  The name appears to be "J.J. Lizza".  It is certainly a unique last name and might be something the next owner can research to find who brought it back to the States.  All of the factory markings, Waffenamts, and Nazi firing proof stamps are all 100% intact and legible.  The original checkered black plastic grips on this gun are in relatively good condition as well.  These grips are well known for being very brittle and prone to warping as the French-made plastic was pretty poor at this time.  These grip are intact and solid, with only two small repairs.  The first is a small crack on the front edge of the right grip that has been glued from the backside to stabilize it.  It is hard to see and does not stand out whatsoever.  The second repair is that the upper grip screw on the right grip has been replaced with with a screw with a smaller head on it.  The original was likely lost and one of the previous owners replaced it with whatever they had that they could make fit.  It also does not stand out, as we didnt even notice it until handling the gun several times while looking for anything non-original.  As you can see from the pictures, this MAB Model D is a very handsome gun despite these little imperfections.  The action on this pistol is smooth and slick, and the slide to frame fitment is very good.  The barrel lock-up to the slide is excellent and all of the controls on this MAB are in perfect working order.  The bore is in very good condition with excellent rifling and no visible wear or damage.  This MAB D comes with one original factory magazine that has had a number applied to the base that is unrelated to this pistol.  It is possibly a post-war MAB Model D magazine that was used after WW2 by the French Police.  We have no doubt that this German occupation MAB Model D would function just as reliably and accurately as it did when it left the factory in 1941-42.  If you have been looking for a new pistol for your WW2 German weapons collection this MAB Model D would be an excellent choice.  It is not very often that we encounter these in good condition with the original finish intact like this one, much less with the original grips and perfect mechanics like this one!
