ARRIETA MODEL 802 SLE 20 Ga., 28” bl. (identical to H&H Royal) -- NEW
BEST GUN:
ARRIETA’s MODEL 802’s are hand-made Best Guns built as identical clones to the much more costly H&H Royal model. The number 802 indicates the engraving is the identical H&H Acanthus scroll pattern which makes this gun an exact clone of the Royal (engraving executed by a Master engraver).
Besides the engraving, the basic model is a true clone as well: with H & H pattern 7-pin sidelocks, H&H hand detachable, gold-lined cocking indicators, intercepting safety sears, bushed strikers, traditional double triggers (articulated front trigger), gas escape valves, auto-safety, H & H selective Southgate ejectors, chopper lump barrels… and down to every last H&H detail with their H & H Assisted Opening.
And you can find some authentic original H&H Royals without bushed strikers – not here, this gun has them just like the latest H&H Royals.
Its 28” nitro-proved barrels are chrome-lined with 2 ¾” chambers, with a solid English concave game rib and choked Improved Cylinder (R) and Improved Modified (L), perfect live bird guns and sporting clays.
The receiver is coin finished and contrasts nicely with the deep blue barrels and other blue parts and the best-quality Turkish walnut stocks.
Like H&H Royals, the stock is shaped in the traditional English straight hand grip with drop points and a splinter forend with Anson push-button forearm release set in an engraved inlaid forearm tip escutcheon. The hand checkering is 24 lpi with double borders in point pattern with wrap around checkering.
Dimensions are 14 3/8” LOP to hand-checkered butt, 1 3/8” DAC, 2”DAH with 1/8” cast offs for the right hand shooter and weighs 6 lb 6 oz.
Condition:
This is No. 1 of a consecutive pair when first built -- it is brand new with no marks. It is cased in a leather Arrieta trunk case with nickel accessories but since it was built as a pair, I am not sure the case is original to the gun, but it has the correct label and fits like a glove.

Eibar Spain Guns:
Avelino Arrieta and his sons have stood out as premier gun makers located in the Eibar region of Spain, the mecca of Spanish gun makers. In this Basque country of northern Spain, Eibar gun makers have become world famous for the best value in “Best Gun” quality sidelock actions for side-by-side shotguns. In the last three decades, even London gun makers are carrying lines of Eibar guns. (It has been recently reported that Arrieta is the Eibar maker selected by both William Powel and Churchill to build 90% of their guns behind the scenes for quality and cost control.)
While Arrieta makes many models, any model number 600 and above is a Best Gun and all are
internally a copy of the Holland & Holland Royal. The different model numbers in this group just indicates the pattern of the engraving..e.g. 801 (Churchill), 802 (Holland & Holland Royal), 803 (Purdey engraving), etc.
And there are no better Eibar-made guns. This includes the top of the line Grulla RL Supreme, Garbi Armes 103B, and the recently discontinued Arrizabalaga, although all three of those guns are or were priced much higher.
