Payment Types Accepted: Credit Card, Certified Check, Money Order Description: FRENCH Antique AN IX Flintlock Musket With British Proofs & Markings Here we present an antique French Model AN IX Flintlock Military Musket, made in the late 18th or early 19th Century. This musket follows the pattern of the AN IX though it appears to have been made abroad, possibly Brescia, now in Italy. This musket would have been used by an infantryman and is equipped with a bayonet lug and good sights for a smooth bore musket, especially with the presence of the blocky rear sight. Front sight is integral to the foremost barrel band. Inspection marks of “Crown/P/16” are visible on the lock face behind the hammer. There is a tiny “Crown/H” inside an oval on the rear tang of the trigger guard. British London proof marks of “Crown/CP” and “Crown/V” are located on the left side of the barrel. A faint date of “1816” and the number “14” are also present between them, 14 for bore size. Various inspection, proof, and acceptance marks are located on the underside of the barrel, including a “Crown/R”. Number “1744” is located on the barrel and breech block. Assembly number Roman numeral “VII” is located on the barrel, and on the lock. Number “4” is located at the inside front of the lock as well as the lock inletting of the stock. Maker’s marks are located on both the inside of the lock and under the barrel. The lock is marked King George’s royal cipher and dated “1776”. The overall condition is near fine. The iron parts were finished bright and bear a light brown patina. The markings are clear. The walnut stock is in great condition with the handling marks you would expect from a 200+ year old musket. The bore is smooth, clean and reflective. The action is excellent, strong and crisp. Here is a fantastic and very interesting musket that appears to have been all around Europe and remains in great firing condition! Own the original!
