SMITH with HOLSTER Here we present an antique Spencer Safety Hammerless Double Action Revolver manufactured circa the early 1890s in New York. These Spencer Safety Hammerless revolvers are quite the interesting little hammerless pocket revolvers. They were made in three frame sizes for .22, .32, and .38 caliber cartridges. Flayderman’s Guide reports that these were made by the Otis A. Smith company, whose product quality was generally a cut above many of the other makers of cheap pocket pistols in the late 1800s. Only a couple of thousand of these revolvers were produced, making this quite the scarce gun. Some of these guns were marked “Spencer Safety Hammerless” on the top of the barrel, as is this one, and some were marked “Maltby Henley of New York”. Maltby Henley was the marketing agent for these guns. These same patent dates have also been found on revolvers marked “Spencer Safety Hammerless”, “Maltby Henley”, “J.N. Scott”, and “N.Y. Arms Co.”, suggesting these were also Otis A. Smith products. The design included a number of unusual features. Unlike the majority of hammerless revolvers from the era, these were solid frame designs rather than top breaks, with the barrel and frame a single integral piece. They included a unique manual thumb safety in the form of a serrated wheel at the top of the backstrap knuckle. The .32 and .38 models also included a cylinder lock on the topstrap that is depressed to allow the cylinder to freewheel to load and unload cartridges. The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age. Legible markings. The left grip is missing a chip in the butt, otherwise both grips are good. Original finish. The included purse holster is in good shape. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 3-3/16 inches. Caliber: .32 S&W Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
