Description:
SOLD......Colt Single Action Army First Generation in .38 Special...1899...CCR NEEDED.....LAYAWAY? .38 Special. 5.5" barrel length. SN: 188831. Single-Action loading-gate revolver with topstrap notch and blade sights. Blued metal finish overall with polished hammer flanks. Hard rubber grips feature Rampant Colt medallions and checkering. Left frame shows the standard two-line patent marks followed by the Rampant Colt insignia. Caliber marking to left barrel reads "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY 38 SPECIAL" with right showing "COLT'S MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A." Further Rampant Colt stamped to rear of cylinder. Serial Number consistent with 1899 manufacture. Frame is blued rather than factory casehardened indicating it was refinished at some point. Barrel shows signs of having been touched up including loss of polishing marks to flanks of sight. Grips are not scratch marked to the gun and show slight misalignment indicating likely replacement.
CONDITION: Fine as refinished. Bore is very bright with some residues around breech. Metal finish shows weakening to topstrap and ejector rod housing with some patches of oxidation to those components. Scratches and finish loss around muzzle with mottled patina to left side and spot of oxidation to right. Some edgewear and scratches overall. Gripstraps are a brown patina with some lightening to frame area. Some flecks of oxidation to triggerguard area. Hammer flanks are a gray to brown patina with finish loss to hammer spur. Grips show asymmetrical wear with right panel showing detail loss to logo and a lighter shade. Some mars along lower edges of grip panels and a chip to frame of left logo. Action indexes correctly (4 clicks).
