U.S. FLAMING BOMB MARKED EARLY WORLD WAR II WINCHESTER MODEL 12 RIOT GUN, 12 GA. TAKEDOWN WITH MATCHING NUMBERS, #971XXX, MADE 1942. Judging from recent sales, all World War II firearms seem to have recently exploded in value and desirability. Even items like S&W Victory Model revolvers, M1 rifles and carbines, Model 1903s, 1911s etc. that used to be fairly common and reasonably priced have now sky rocketed. Combat shotguns have always been popular with collectors and these have shows values escalating at least or more rapidly than other W.W.II firearms. This early World War II example shows deep original blue on the receiver and barrel with only very light edge wear mainly to the bottom of the receiver edges and some minor, light scuffs on the barrel top. The mag tube also shows fine blue with only some minor thinning along the bottom. It displays the correct U.S. and flaming bomb stamping on the side of the receiver below the ejection port and flaming bomb on the barrel top. Marked "CYL" on the left side of the barrel for cylinder choke correct on 20" riot guns. Additionally, the left side of the stock shows a clear "W.B." in a rectangle over crossed cannons inspection cartouche. Stock and forend are both excellent with tight wood to metal fit. Interestingly, there is a small stamping on the left far rear side of the receiver "M H P" over "119" indicating this riot gun was later issued to one of the "M" states Highway Patrol. So, there is double history in this one! Bright bore, tight action & takedown with Winchester embossed hard rubber butt plate- all in great condition.
