SCARCE COLT FIRST MODEL 1903 .32 POCKET HAMMERLESS AUTO PISTOL, #60XXX, MADE 1907. First models are seldom seen and are different from later models. They were only made until 1908 and feature a four inch barrel with barrel bushing (like on a Model 1911). Later models have 3 3/4" barrels and eventually lack the barrel bushing. Because of their early production date and longer service life, First Models, when encountered, usually show heavy carry wear. This example is better than most I've seen as it retains fine high polished Colt blue on the frame sides with some nice fire blue remaining on the trigger sides. The slide and front strap shows good blue that is thinning, but retains a good look. Unaltered sights, backstrap/grip safety functions correctly and is an aged gray with some blue at top and bottom portions. Excellent early style hard rubber grips embossed with the correct circle around the rampant colt. The bottom of the magazine appears to have had something scratched in it and them over-scratched to deface the original markings- not deep and could easily be polished out. Tight action and excellent bore. 115 year old early Colt auto.
