BRITISH Capture/Bringback Proof Marks
Here we present a C&R German DWM (Deutsche Waffen-und Munitionsfabriken) Pistole Parabellum P.08 Military Luger Pistol, made in 1918 in Berlin. Basing his design off Hugo Borchardt’s seminal C93, Georg Luger successfully brought Borchardt’s work to practical and productive fruition. While finding buyers for the C93 seemed an exercise in futility, the new Luger Pistol found many countries eager to test it and even adopt it. There are many variations in this field of collecting, but relatively few major changes in overall design from beginning to end.
This pistol is a nice example of a mid-World War I German Luger manufactured by DWM in 1918 with British capture proof marks. The proofmarks consist of the Crown over “BNP” proof and are located on top of the breechlock, the left side of the barrel, the barrel extension, and frame rail. The underside of the barrel is marked with the full British proofmarks that consist of “9 M/M, 752/15 TONS PER/”. The right side of the barrel extension has the three “Crown/Script” proofs next to the Imperial Eagle proof. Interestingly, the stock attachment has been ground off.
The overall condition is good+. Original finish. The numbers match with the exception of the side plate and magazine. The action is excellent. The bore is in very good condition with nice rifling. The grips have seen an attempted rechecker and remain solid.
