Description:
Here is a survivor that has documentation to the buffalo range. .45-70 Gov't, solid wood with a small piece missing on the right side of the forearm, otherwise no issues other than typical of a 143 year-old gun used out-of-doors for a number of years. Bore is not pristine but actually pretty good, fairly deep and consistant rifling. Shiny and reflective- no, but certainly shootable. Rear sight is one I've never seen before and I've been told, relativley rare. It is marked Field and Target. Double-set triggers, working. Metal looks worse in the pictures than it actually is. There is some minor pitting in places but mostly it is smooth but patinated. This rifle letters as shipped to the Wright Byerly store in Dodge City, Kansas, on May 17,1879. It is hard to get closer to a buffalo hunt than this. I have shot this rifle and everything works. Here's a piece of history that doesn't come along often. Ships to your door in normal states. Shipping and insurance via priority mail included in the price.
