Collection of 13 Antique Bowie & Fighting Knives - from left to right: 1.) Bone handle sailor's dirk circa 1840's, 8 9/16" overall with 4 13/16" faceted dagger blade with etched motifs, sharp edges with great patina, natural age checks on one side of handle. 2.) Manhattan Cutlery Co. Sheffield Bowie knife w/ Sheath circa 1860's, 11 1/8" overall with 7" spear point blade. Blade is mirror bright with original luster and perfect edge. Checkered ebony handle is sharp with only one tight 3/4" crack. Original red sheath is complete with minor loss at tip. 3.) Civil War era "A SURE DEFENSE" etched blade Bowie knife, 11 5/16" overall with 7" dagger blade marked "AKXLN". Blade retains original luster with perfect edges and vivid etched patriotic motto. Stag handles are perfect with no damage. 4.) Civil War era Southern fighting knife with sheath, 12 1/4" overall with 8" drop point blade, unmarked with good edge, round horn handle with brass furniture, original leather sheath. 5.) Large A. Feist & Co. Civil War era "SELF DEFENDER" etched blade Bowie knife, 14 5/8" overall with 10" dagger blade. Blade retains much original luster with good edges and vivid etched patriotic motto. Excellent cow horn handle with silver shield. 6.) Massive George Wostenholm & Son Washington Works Sheffield IXL "CALIFORNIA KNIFE" Bowie with original sheath, circa late 1800's/early 1900's. A vintage knife not to be confused with the later 20th century copies. Measures 14 1/2" overall with 9 1/2" clip point blade. Well marked with maker's name, mottos, and cyphers. Blade retains bright original luster with perfect edge, small spot of scratching on one side. Huge stag handles show pleasing wear with no chips or cracks. Original sheath marked "IXL" is complete with moderate wear. 7.) Large Early Joseph Rodgers & Sons Sheffield Bowie knife, circa 1850's, 12 1/2" overall with 7 5/8" clip point blade. Blade is much reduced in size from sharpening. Massive nickel silver furniture with stag handles which show much wear but no damage. Original leather sheath is complete showing heavy wear. 8.) Standard Cutlery Co. Bowie knife circa late 1800's, 11 1/8" overall with 7" spear point blade, pleasing smooth patina with perfect edge. Stag handles show moderate wear with no damage. 9.) Civil War era Alexander Sheffield "THE HUNTER'S COMPANION"  Bowie knife, 10 5/8" overall with 6 9/16" spear point blade additionally marked "N(shield)Y". Blade retains much bright original luster with blood stain pitting on one side, perfect edge. Excellent cow horn handles with no damage. 10.) Civil War era Edward Barnes & Sons "US" dagger with original sheath, 9 1/8" overall with 5 1/4" dagger blade, nice patina with good edges. Pearl scales are excellent with silver shield. Sculpted nickel silver guard and pommel (damage to one end of guard). Original silver mounted sheath is complete showing light wear. 11.) Early George Woodhead Sheffield dagger with original sheath circa 1850's, 9" overall with 5" dagger blade. Lightly marked with Howard Street address visible. Blade is full with perfect edges and mirror bright luster but with much light surface scratches and scuffing. Bone handle with ebony pommel and three round inlays (one missing). Original sheath is intact but missing tip. 12.) Bottom left - Southwestern Bowie knife with carved silver handle circa mid/late 1800's, 12 1/4" overall with 7 3/8" clip point blade, unmarked with nice patina. 13.) Bottom right - Lock back folding Bowie knife with original sheath circa late 1800's, 11 1/2" overall open with 7 3/8" drop point blade, unmarked. Checkered horn handle shows moderate wear with a repaired 5/8" crack on one side and several small abrasions on the other side. Nickel silver button to open, lock back to close.
