Description:
SOLD.. Early small trigger guard Colt 1851 Navy with the HARTFORD barrel address.. Nice and honest early Colt 1851 Navy.. Standard 7 1/2" barrel in . 36caliber. S/N 85349 and ALL matching including the wedge and arbor pin. Gun was made in 1858.. A lot of these pre Civil War Navy's saw a lot of use in the gold fields and were shipped south for the war.. This is a nice and honest example.. The gun has no finish but for traces of case colors on the rammer by the S/N as you can see.. The gun is a medium brown patina that has never been cleaned on or messed with.. A few dings and mars here and there from honest use but never abused. Gun is smooth with no bad pitting to speak of but for a little pin pricks here and there and some very light surface crud and staining. Nothing detracting..  The cylinder still retains about 70% scene... A little more might show through the heavy patina with some light cleaning.. I can send photos of the cylinder all the way around it if someone wants more detailed photos of the scene no problem.. The mechanics are excellent.. Very tight and crisp like new.. Indexes perfectly and the hammer notches are correct and positive.. NO front to rear cylinder movement and no side to side wobble on the arbor pin.. Rock solid barrel to frame fit at the wedge and the barrel does not just fall off when you remove the wedge either..  Most no finish Colt Navy's you will find are quite loose and rattly.. This one has been well taken care of. Also the nipples in the cylinder are in near excellent condition and are not smashed or rusted thin.. If they have been replaced it was done a long time ago.. Also 4 of the 6 safety pins on the rear of the cylinder are full and intact.. The other 2 are worn down. This ole 51 Navy would be a great shooter with no problems holding the caps on the nipples. The bore is near excellent, bright and shiny with just a few very minor specks.. NO bad pitting or rough spots.. No rings or bulges. Way above the average percussion bore.. The cylinder chambers are excellent as well with No pitting and are smooth as new.. Markings are excellent and all the screw heads are clean and sharp and show very little turning.. The brass has never been cleaned on or polished and has that untouched aged patina.. Traces of silver on the top of the back strap and the trigger guard in protected area. The original grips have a very old and worn chip out of the right front toe as you can see but they fit like a glove all the way around with about 15% to 20% of original varnish. They show some minor and honest dings and mars but no other cracks or repairs.. The gun has never been used as a hammer as the grips are not all beat up on the bottom like a lot of these you will find.. Just a straight up and 100% correct and honest early 51 Navy.. It has a lot of life left for a no finish gun and hard to find these that are still very tight like new and still shootable !!!! Of course you can find the worn out ones that rattle when you shake them much cheaper..  $30 insured shipping.. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos..
