UNDERLEVER English Fowling Piece
Here we present an antique Engraved Frederic T. Baker Side by Side Double Barrel Hammer Shotgun, made circa the late 1870s in London, England. London and Birmingham were the epicenter for English gunmaking all the way through and continuing after the turn of the century. This is an English fowling piece that is elegant in its simplicity and practicality. This double barrel hammer gun would have been used primarily for putting game on the table or defending one’s home.
The overall condition is good. Much of the Damascus pattern on the barrel remains and engraving is good. There is some light pitting in spots on the exterior of the barrels. The actions are excellent. The bores are in good condition and mostly smooth and reflective. There are some dents toward the muzzle end. The stock is solid. The front bead has been reattached with solder.
